Campbell McKilligan

Campbell is a lighting designer and professional engineer.

In 1994 Campbell graduated from University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) with a degree in Engineering majoring in Computer Systems with honours. He worked as a professional engineer for Energy Australia before moving to Cisco Systems where he worked for over four years. Campbell qualified for the coveted CCIE (Cisco Certified Internet Expert) qualification in 1998 and worked as a CCIE examiner with Cisco for several years.

In 2000 Campbell was seconded to SOCOG to work on the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in the Operations area. In July 2001, he graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) with a degree in Dramatic Art specialising in Technical Production.

For several years Campbell has worked in San Francisco as associate to Lighting Designer Allan Parkinson on ReUnion Party as part of San Francisco Pride. Campbell has worked on the lighting at numerous parties such as Sleaze Ball 1999, 2000 and 2001, Hell Ball 5 (San Francisco) 2000, Magnitude The Forum Melbourne 2001, Redemption Melbourne 2002, Red Raw 01 and 02, Harbour Party 2000 and 2001, Inquisition IX and X, Mardi Gras Party 2002, Frantic and Queer Nation 3, ICE April 2003 and Magnitude NYE 2003, Sleaze Ball 2004, Big Queer Nation 2005 and Mardi Gras 2007.

In 2002 Campbell was Lighting Designer for Terry Biviano at her debut Fashion Week launch who quickly become a sought after designer. Campbell was Lighting Designer for the 2002 NRL Grand Final Entertainment at Stadium Australia. Campbell was Lighting Designer for the Ballroom Dancing Competition and Grand Ball for Sydney 2002 Gay Games at Sydney Town Hall as well as Lighting Designer for numerous theatre productions as part of the Gay Games Cultural Festival.

2003 saw many premier events for Campbell as Lighting Designer such as the NRL Telstra Premiership Launch and in March, he was Lighting Designer for Gucci's Fashion Parade at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney. During Sydney Fashion Week in May Campbell was Lighting Designer for shows by Terry Biviano, Marcs, Kerry Grima and Gabriel Scarvelli. Campbell was Lighting Designer for the Sydney Children's Hospital Gold Dinner at the Overseas Passenger Terminal and designed the lighting for the September Issue Editorial spread for Harper's Bazaar. Campbell worked on the Rugby World Cup 2003 in August and September of 2003.

During 2004 Campbell took an appointment as Technical Director for Explosive Entertainment Corporation - based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He was responsible for fitting out this start up company and led the technical teams in various events including the televised 2005 Jeddah Economic Forum.

From 2005 through 2007 Campbell undertook the crucial role of IT Manager for David Atkins Enterprises, Doha who produced the magnificent Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2006 Doha Asian Games. He was responsible for the deployment of all IT and Telephony for the 1000 strong organisation of staff and contractors in Doha.

Campbell currently has various short and long term freelance engagements.

In his spare time, Campbell enjoys steampunk, riding motorbikes, overseas travel and entertaining friends.
